Would one way of describing it be coexistence? I had a most profound experience several years ago. I was sitting with my aunt in hospice during her last days. Adjacent to the property was a football field. I simultaneously experienced immense pain, fear and grief with my aunt while the most joyous spectating a friendly football game with guys just loving the game in the rain and I felt their joy, and it that moment I knew you could live in both worlds at the exact time, there was no time delay between either. It was so powerful and I try to remember this during dark times. While grief and depression are different, I do know both intimately, and somehow we do need to remember the temporary visit. It is challenging!
